Valrico is a growing suburb of the Tampa Bay area. Located roughly sixteen miles away from the City of Tampa Valrico is a popular place to live for people making the commute to Tampa and Mcdill Air Force Base While once a small area with a small population Valrico continues to grow in popularity. It is home to several well established neighborhoods, as well as new construction.
Valrico’s existence began as part of the Long Pond cotton plantation. In the 1890s the railway system continued to expand, adding more stops and bringing more people in the Valrico area. Valrico, meaning valley of gold was derived from a spanish phrase. Valrico is 5.7 square miles in size. Over the years the area has seen several transitions from an agricultural focus to a suburban area.
Valrico is a thriving community with lots of options for dining, shopping and schools. It is home to several locally owned boutiques and restaurants that are a real treat to visit. The schools have some of the best ratings in Hillsborough county. Valrico is also home to several great private and public golf courses and country clubs. The area also offers opportunities to get outside and enjoy nature with part of the Alafia River running through it’s boundaries and nature trails. the community also has it’s own YMCA and sports fields.
