Brandon Florida is a great area to call home and a community with a rich history and ever expanding opportunities. Brandon was settled in 1857 by John Brandon and his family. The town was originally called New Hope. Brandon originally purchased 40 acres of land and later purchased another 160, naming the area Brandon after his family name. His son built what is now Stower’s funeral home in 1876. The home still stands today maintaining it’s historical integrity. In 1890 the railway system made it’s way into Brandon establishing a depot at what is now Moon ave. By 1922 one hundred people were living in the town of Brandon. They had established their own school and post office. The school site is still operating, now as McClane middle school. During the great depression two large orange packing houses, located in Valrico, provided the community of now 250 people with jobs.
Brandon continued to grow and by the 1960s one new family a day was moving in to the town of 8,000 inhabitants that covered six square miles. Hillsborough community College began to hold classes in 1970 and Brandon Community Hospital, which is now the nationally recognized Brandon Regional Hospital, was opened in 1977.
Today Brandon’s population is 265,000 people and 116,000 house holds. The small town with humble beginning continues to grow. Brandon offers many opportunities for jobs and entertainment to it’s residents. Brandon is home to the Westfield Mall, offering lots of dining and shopping opportunities. Brandon also has Libraries, Ballparks, Parks for children, and state parks. Offering plenty of options to live an active lifestyle. Brandon has it’s own performance center for children, Center Place. Brandon is also home to a beautiful wedding and event venue, The Regent. There are many service clubs in the Brandon area that regularly host fundraisers and events for the community.
Many residents are families and young professionals that make the short commute to Tampa daily. We also have many residents that are members of the military that travel to McDill Airforce Base.
